Elevator Pitch No. 1

When first exploring opportunities, I immediately thought of a healthier lifestyle and what not with the start of the new year. I thought about how many college students are on a budget, and healthy food can be expensive. I also thought about the lack of healthy choices when deciding to eat out, so I came up with the idea of a cheaper, healthier alternative restaurant-based place in midtown, as it is a popular area for UF students.

Something that has been growing in popularity very recently is that of food trucks. There are food truck rallies in Gainesville at least once a month- so I thought that would be a special addition to midtown since I personally am getting sick of some of the places to eat there. I thought, "okay, healthy and cheap, but what makes it even more unique?" That's when I thought of the ice cream parlor D'Lites. D'Lites changes its ice cream flavors everyday, and it's not bad for you! I thought the food truck could do the same on either a daily or weekly basis- that way students never get sick of the food.

So now, I present to you: The Variety Van

  1. I love the concept “cheap food that is healthy”. I actually just had Panera bread for lunch. I love Panera. I feel they try different and unique dishes that are full of healthy and fresh ingredients. Of course I haven’t researched Panera Bread all together but that is what my mind thinks of when I think of Panera. Anyway, I’m an online student so I have a hard time understanding what a food truck is. I have heard of them but I can’t image myself ever going to eat in a truck. I think it would really be hard for me to give you feedback or help on a topic that I’m not completely sure I understand. I certainly think you have a great idea for the cheap and healthy food style though. Have you heard of 100 Montaditos? Well it’s a Spanish restaurant that is targeting atmosphere as well as quality 5in sandwiches for only $1. I’m not sure much about this actually I just read about it in my management class but like your concept I think it’s certainly a win for sure! Awesome work!

    2. Thanks for your feedback! Just so you know, you don't actually eat in the truck haha. It's kind of like an ice cream truck where you order and they give you the food right away through the window! If you ever see one/ have the chance- I highly recommend eating at one. The food is almost always bomb. I'll be sure to check out your blog :)

  2. Hello Shannon. I really like your idea of the variety van. This is something I would go to everyday because it’s a solution to the two things I always have trouble with when thinking about where to eat, variety of food and healthiness. I can’t think of the number of times I’ve had difficulty trying to find a place to eat. I also like the fact that the van will serve snacks as well, I think that’s something that will also greatly benefit students.

  3. How crazy! When I was coming up with a business concept, one of the first ones was actually a food truck business! I noticed that I didn't see any around town (could be a bad case of wrong time wrong place), and I saw a need for it. It would bring in some serious revenue in an area around campus in which foot traffic is heavy.

How great that you're making it a healthy menu too!
